The 'missing' Sunday Post issues (the ones from the years available which showed the front page but were inactive ) are now all online.

These are:
1947
Feb 9th
Mar 9th
July 6th
Aug 17th
Oct 19th
Oct 26th

1942
June 14th
Oct 18th
Nov 15th

Incidentally, the BNA support team told me on May 28th that they'd be in touch when this was resolved but I've heard nothing. I've just checked from time to time to see if they were available.

Missing Sunday Posts now up

e.g.

I've also been putting up Edinburgh Evening Newses. So far up to early 1881. Not a great deal of details but I have found a couple of Hearts games I didn't have a record of in other sources.

e.g. Sat 22 Mar 1879 Lancefield 0 Hearts 14

I don't have much to look up at the moment, but this could be quite handy tracking former players who moved 'down under'

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/search?adv=y

will try some random Falkirk+Football searches & report back

result

John Gillespie, FFC [soon to be of Queen's Park] being sent off for attacking the referee in a pre-season tournament in 1891 reported in "The Manaro Mercury, and Cooma and Bombala Advertiser"

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/119051028

I knew it happened but the FH carried no report :!:

seems to be free if you register, you need to refine & refine & refine searches, as I kept getting aitken's falkirk ale & the falkirk iron company next to sports articles, plus there seems to have been a racehorse called 'falkirk'

there isn't much, as you'd expect, but there may be some valuable nuggets, especially for getting obits of emigres.

For anyone who has ever consulted an online newspaper archive (ie most of us) this is a fascinating story from the British Library about how it all happens:

Fascinating. It also contains what, even in January, must be a strong contender for Understatement of the Year: "We know that not everyone is a massive fan of microfilm."

And from the pedant's corner, maybe they'll learn how to spell Thomson (as in DC) correctly in future.

I received a e-mail from a old Thistle player who mentioned that the "Sunday People" used to publish details of reserves fixtures.
Is the Sunday People available anywhere on or off line ?

For those like me who find the BNA's subscription rates extortionate, you can register with findmypast.com and get access to the BNA's archive for under a tenner a month, compared to BNA's £30. Admittedly the Findmypast search function is a bit clunky, but I can tolerate that for that price!

That's useful info, Brian. Worth checking out. With regard to the BNA's rates, I think they're okay if you're going to spend a lot of time on the site. When they were adding many years of the Sunday Post, I felt it was good value but with only the odd local paper added and the BNA themselves saying they have no plans for any major additions to the Post in the near future, I let my subscription lapse despite various reduced rate offers.

It all depends on what people are looking for and what is available. For Scottish football historians I suspect we have devoured most of what's currently available that we can use.
