These are the Secondary Juvenile Cup finals in those years:

69-70 Whitehill Welfare 6, Eadie Star 1
70-71 Whitehill Welfare 4, Port Glasgow 0
71-72 Campsie Black Watch 3, Shawfield Juveniles 2
72-73 Possil YC 3, Whitehill Welfare 1
73-74 Campsie Black Watch 1, Shamrock Boys Club (Greenock) 0
74-75 Whitehill Welfare 4, Bathgate 0

It helps that both Whitehill and Campsie have published club histories, so I could get more details on any of these finals if you need them.

The Scottish Seconday Juvenile FA became the Association of Scottish Youth Football Clubs in 1984, and then merged with the Juvenile FA to become the Scottish Youth FA in 1999.

1972/1973 final

Post by Ewart » Thu Feb 07, 2008 3:09 pm

Thanks to you both. I played for the Possil YC team that won the cup in '73 but could find no record. The MSYP for the Possil area has a website that highlights local football achievements and I felt that it would be appropriate to include our success. Obviously, he needed some confirmation. Thanks again,
Ewart Cameron (goalkeeper)

Happy to help. The only other detail I can add about the match is that the final was played at Olive Bank, Musselburgh, and it was in mid-June 1973.

1972/1973 final

Post by Ewart » Thu Feb 07, 2008 3:47 pm

Thanks again Scottish FA. I couldn't remember the name of the park, however, we left Glasgow with 2 buses, one for the team and one for the supporters. The team bus broke down on the way so we all had to cram on to the supporters bus, which made for a rowdy ride to the park. Whitehill and the officials were on the field when we arrived, late of course. We changed in record breaking time but were not allowed a warm up by the ref. Straight on the field and away we went!! However, the result was great and if my memory serves me well, we were presented the cup and our medals by the Scotland International team manager, Willie Ormond??
Cheers, Ewart.

1972/1973 final

You can't knock Whitehill's achievements. Of the six years listed, they were in the final 4 times! We (Possil) knew we were in for a tough match when we found out we would play them in the final.
Cheers, Ewart.

1973 winner

Post by Ewart » Thu Feb 07, 2008 8:03 pm

Please note that the 1973 Secondary Juvenile winner, Possil YC that I played for, is not the same club as Possil YM that won the cup in 1966 & 1982. The YC stood for Youth Club and the YM was short for YMCA.
Regards, Ewart.

Thank you BMCCOLL. It's been a long time since I "talked" about this. Brings back a lot of fond memories.
All the best, Ewart.

I played for Shawfield Juvs in the 1972 final, played at Yoker Juniors park. Was supposed to be at Easter Rd but because it was 2 west of Scotland teams they moved it. Anybody on the forum have any memories of the game? Cheers, Jim.

To Jimjam. I played for Shawfield in that final and in fact scored the equaliser from the spot to make it 2-2 before Mike Larnach who subsequently played for Motherwell and Hearts scored the winner. Great days long passed.

Hi Brian D, D for Duffy, it's Jim McConnell here, Jimjam. I played in goal that day and remember you scoring the penalty, Andy McGurk scored the other. I played over here in |Canada with Allan Beaton and against wee Tosh as well. Also played against George Blue when I was in South Africa. Small world right enough.
