League championship medals

Post by ByTor » Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:01 pm

During a conversation at work today the subject of how many games you need to play to get a winners came up and I was wondering how many you need to play to qualify for a winners medal in the scottish second division but nobody else knew. Any body have any idea?

This question has been asked a few times. Consensus seems to be that "The number of medals is set by the appropriate governing body. It appears that clubs have freedom to decide how to allocate medals individually."

My contribution is already on the first thread linked by Cinneide but just to reaffirm:

The SFL issue the champion club in each division 20 medals to do what they like with. They can give them to whoever they want and there's no appearance qualification. They can give one to the manager, the groundsman and the tea lady if they want to.

SFL clubs can also buy more medals if they want to award more than 20, though they are expensive (it's a three figure sum per additional medal). We bought a further three when we won the second division and issued 22 medals, keeping one for the club museum. (Well I say issued, I know for a fact there's at least one medal never collected by the player due it still sitting at the club).
