I can tell you that Angus Plumb [despite his name] was English.

Thought i had something relevant about Angus Plumb in my reams of photocopies. But all i could find was that he was born in Woolwich, London.
Sorry

I remember asking about Angus Plumb before Bobby because I met his niece in Cambridge. Think she might be surprised to learn he was English! Depends what you mean by English though - was he a sort of 'Joe Baker' case?

I'm not sure I'll still be able to get in touch with his niece though, as she might be able to find out.

As for John Fraser i thought it would be easy to find his obituary in the recent back pages of the Scotsman website, but how crap is their search engine now? It used to bring up screeds of results but now it's next to nothing.

I found a broken link on google to a West Lothian Council Website, the cached file on google said this

Newspaper: GAZETTE
Subject: PLUMB, ANGUS
Abstract: OBITUARY OF MR ANGUS PLUMB OF LINLITHGOW, A FORMER FALKIRK AND HIBERNIAN FOOTBALL PLAYER AND A PAST CAPTAIN OF LINLITHGOW GOLF CLUB.
Date: 07 JAN 2000
Page number: 28
With photograph?: NO.

I presume that's the Linlithgowshire Gazette, but I don't know where their held, but when I do I'll try to find a copy. I'd suppose it would give his age, if not any other biographical details.

Found Angus Plumb's Obituary in the Bo'ness Journal [sister paper of the Gazette]

He died aged 78 on 29th Dec 1999, therefore you have 1921/22 for a year of birth.

Out of interest his career clubs were [no other details given]

Castlepark Thistle, Armadale Thistle, Hibernian, Falkirk, East Fife, East Stirlingshire.

Surely 1920/21? If he was 78 on Dec 29th then he was born in 1921 unless his 79th birthday was on Dec 30th/31st in which case he would have been born in 1920.

The website http://www.freebmd.org.uk offers an Angus F Plumb birth, registered in Woolwich in the first quarter of 1922.

Oh hell, I can't remember her name now. She was going out with a friend's brother, so my connection with her was pretty tenuous, but I met her in Cambridge, not London. And she was definitely Scottish.
