In the 1896-97 Scottish Qualifying Cup it seems as if Linlithgow Athletic must have called it a day in between the 1st & 2nd rounds, a bit strange considering they had just defeated Airdriehill 14 - 0 in the 1st round, does anyone know what may have happened ?

These clubs were in different sections of the draw. Linlithgow Athletic scratched before their tie against Penicuik Athletic (East of Scotland, Fifeshire & Border Counties). The team that beat Airdriehill 14-0 was Linthouse (Glasgow & Lanarkshire).

Thanks for that, i get most of my details from local papers, but always double check them with the Breedon book of Scottish records, seems there are many mistakes in it, is there any other books that cover all Scottish cup results ?

Breedon's early years has lots of errors, probably through either trying to save space or sheer idleness to check facts, Hamilton and Hamilton Accies are interchangeable , likewise Airdrie and Airdrieonians. I primarily refer to John Byrne's seminal work 'The Scottish Cup 1873-1986', long out of print I'm afraid, though it may be possible to get a copy on ebay. However if they are used as much as mine, they are probably unsaleable... mine's is falling to pieces!

Thinking about it i would have found that score in the Scottish Qualifying Cup book 1895 to 1995, every chance that may have be corrected.
