Scottish Cup third round tie, has anyone got details on this match ?, was the first game played at Cliftonhill and abandoned due floodlight failure at half-time with the second game being played at New Broomfield ?

The game was definitely abandoned due to floodlight failure and replayed at the Shyberry Excelsior Stadium.

I haven't got the details to hand right now but the second game attracted a substantially larger crowd - admission charges were much lower.

The crowd of 1116 looks suspicious - could Cliftonhill even hold that many at that time?

The crowd at the second game was 2234 and Livingston were on a roll at the time so it doesn't look out of kilter to me. 'Rothmans' gives a Cliftonhill capacity of 2496 for that season. Two seasons previously there was a crowd of 1682 for a Scottish Cup tie v Partick Thistle.

The source I used was the Scottish Football League review 2002/03

Thanks for the help everyone, the West Lothian Courier football reports around that time were a disgrace to say the least.

Rovers used to open the terracing opposite the main stand if they were expecting a big crowd, I'm sure that's what they did for the Thistle cup game mentioned above.

Just to clear up any doubt. The figure of 1116 for the abandoned match is the official figure submitted to the SFA.

That was indeed the case - I was at the game in question. Oh how we laughed while watching the action unfold unhindered at crumbling Cliftonhill to learn that the Celtic - Inverness tie had been postponed due to high winds that threatened to blow the Parkhead roof off. Of course we all got an even bigger laugh when that particular fixture eventually took place....
