Charles Noble Phillips

Post by Bristol Rovers » Fri Jun 18, 2010 11:27 am

I am searching for information on Charles Noble Phillips, a forward with West Ham and also with Ayr United prior to World War One. Charlie Phillips appears to have been top scorer at Ayr in the 1911-12 season, but I know little else. Could anyone fill in details about birth, death and career, please? Much appreciated.

John Litster's pre-war disk has the following information

Started out with Hurlford then signed for Clyde 16/8/1905, Ayr Parkhouse 13 or 14/9/1907, Raith Rovers 26 or 27/3/1908 (Lister's club history gives him three apps and no goal but I can only find two apps for 07-08), back to Ayr Parkhouse either 27/5/or 30/5/1908. Then he was re-registered as an Ayr United player on 27/8/1901 and re-registered again on either 10 or 19/5/1913. He is also noted as having signed for Ayr United on 1/12/1916 (certainly made no appearances in 1914-15) and was there until 1918-19 though he made no appearances in that last season.

Partial playing record:
1910-11 7 lge goals
1911-12 18 lge goals - top club scorer
1912-13 11 lge goals - top club scorer
1913-14 17 lge apps, 5 goals
1916-17 7 lge apps 2 goals

AFAIK he never scored in the Scottish Cup proper for any of his clubs.
