Can't find a thing about it, but Leslie Millman has these photos of a medal from the game. It was a charity match in aid of the Lord Mayor's fund for hospitals in Manchester and Salford.

Re: Manchester Utd v Airdrieonians
Airdrieonians won 2-0 at Old Trafford on 5th May, 1923, Gallacher & Russell the scorers. The match was played for the Lord Mayor's Million Shillings Hospital Fund.
The teams met again, on 22nd September, 1925, but this time at Broomfield. The Diamonds won again, by 2-1, with Murdoch & Gallacher scoring. That match was a benefit game for Willie Neil.
Not a bad wee double for the Diamonds!

Excellent, thanks very much for that.
Re: Manchester Utd v Airdrieonians
Apparently United played twice in Scotland within two days having played Aberdeen the day before the Airdrie match. This was in Bert MacLachlan's Benefit match.sam peckinpah wrote:Airdrieonians won 2-0 at Old Trafford on 5th May, 1923, Gallacher & Russell the scorers.
