Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever
Re: Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever
Thanks Bobby. I wasn't sure if their own facilities came up to SFA standards. Mind you, it's nearly 40 years since I last saw them so I suppose they could have been upgraded in the meantime!

Re: Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever
There are email addresses for the club secretary of all four clubs in the current Scottish FA Handbook.scottish wrote:However there are four clubs which appear to be impossible to contact. Emails are bounced back from both Edinburgh & Glasgow University FC's websites and neither Gala Fairydean nor Wigtown & Bladnoch appear to have any web presence at all. If anyone has any other contact details short of writing a letter - so very 20th century -I would appreciate it.

Re: Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever
Stirling Uni facilities are still pretty basic, not up to SFA membership standards and they only got into the Scottish Cup because they won the East of Scotland League. If they had been given a 'big' club in the draw they would have played at Forthbank.
There is a good selection of photos of the Bonnyrigg match on their website: http://www.stir.ac.uk/footballclub/matc ... 16-en.html
and I note the match report gives the attendance as a very precise 593.

Re: Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever
I had thought their facilities would have forced a change regardless but seemingly not. So it remains the case that if they finish, say, runners-up in the EoSL this season they won't be eligible next year?ScottishFA wrote:Stirling Uni facilities are still pretty basic, not up to SFA membership standards and they only got into the Scottish Cup because they won the East of Scotland League. That's a whole five fewer than reported!ScottishFA wrote: I note the match report gives the attendance as a very precise 593.
Re: Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever
John Snedden from Preston Athletic tells me the official figure for the 1st round tie v Nairn County this season was 181. He gives an estimate of 100 for the 1st round match v Gala Fairydean in 2008-09. He also reckons the match v Hamilton Accies in 2002-03 was over 1,000 and Stenhousemuir in 2006-07 was over 500. The figures for those games that I have are 973 and 365 respectively and those are official SFA figures.
Re: Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever
Slowly but surely we're getting there. Finlay Noble, Chairman/Secretary of Fraserburgh tells me that the crowd v Coldstream in their 1st round match this season was 278.
He has also given me a number of corrections to previously issued figures. These are (with the previously published figures in brackets):
1,025 v Clachnacuddin 30/12/1981 (950)
1,617 v St Johnstone 9/1/1988 (1,500)
2,721 v Cove Rangers 29/12/1990 (2,500)
293 v Clyde 13/12/1997 (270)
268 v Hawick Royal Albert 7/9/08 (270)
446 v Bonnyrigg Rose 26/9/09 (430)
322 v St Cuthbert Wanderers 25/9/10 (350)
Unfortunately Finlay can't go back any further than that as, like so many clubs, earlier records have been lost in a fire.

Re: Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever
For Hawick RA v Huntly in 2009-10 I have it listed as 250. Don't have the source but I recall there was a fair bit of news coverage after it was claimed there were unusual betting patterns on the match. It must have been in one of these reports that I found it although it is almost certainly a guess-timate.
Re: Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever
I remember the betting controversy. Happy to take the figure, which means there are now as many outstanding for this season alone (eight) as for the past five seasons combined. I've written to every club but some of the ones outstanding are clubs which have a fill-in form on their website so it may take some time to get a response.
If nothing in a month or so's time, I'll contact secretaries direct.
