A couple of things from my list:

The match against Partick Thistle on the 28th September 1908 is shown in both the Herald and Scotsman as being at Hampden, but the PTFC Official History shows it as Ibrox - any clarification would be appreciated.

Also, the league match against Motherwell on the 3rd of April 1915 was the culmination of our trip around the other Glasgow grounds. Following the fire at Shawfield, we played our home matches at Celtic Park. On the 27th Feb 1915 we played Hamilton at that venue. For our next home game, Celtic had arranged a friendly against Glentoran, so we played Rangers at Ibrox in a league match for the second time that season. Then, The Scottish League were playing the English league at Celtic Park on the same Saturday as our next home game, so we played it at Firhill. The last of our matches "on the road" was the match against Motherwell at Hampden, because Celtic had a home match with Airdrie. After the Motherwell "normal service" was resumed and we were back at Celtic Park. So between the 27th February and the 3rd of April we played four consecutive home matches on four different grounds.

Cheers

Shawfield,

I've checked all the Thistle venues out back and forth 'til I'm on the verge of insanity and I've got Hampden Park. I've probably got that from your sources mind you.

The Thistle History book is very good in many ways but it's not reference quality - results/dates/scorers/venues errors are well into the 3 figures.

Actually one of the dirtiest and most brutal game was the 1983 Final between the polis & Coatbridge CC. In 1998, 19 year old Willie Collum sent off 3 West Kilbride players so not all Finals were purer than pure.

Not sure if it's unique or not but Jackie McInally played in three Hampden finals in three consecutive seasons in three different competitions. The Amateur Cup Final with Crosshill Thistle in 1958-59, the Scottish Cup Final with Kilmarnock in 1959-60 and the League Cup Final, also with Killie, in 1960-61.

Regarding the Amateur Cup, not all Final`s teams are known. Until I did my research, the Amateur FA didn`t have records of many of their Finals and, in some cases, didn`t know the scores or even the names of the losing Final clubs. Some of their minute books provide the draws for various rounds but subsequently don`t give the results. In one case, where I`d hoped to find results, the minutes of a meeting confirm that a new typewriter will be provided for the secretary - not a squeak on the previous week`s 4th Round results. I couldn`t work out total entries in many seasons because this information isn`t in the minutes or in the press. I think the record is about 600 in the 1960s while it`s about 400 today. It does seem to be Scotland`s biggest football competition.

I've amended my (long) post of Dec 10th. Thanks to information provided by qpsnapper the Queen's Park figures should read League 1837, Scottish Cup 104, League Cup 125. It's possible that league figure may change by a couple either way. I'll post again when it's definitive.

Possibly because the secretary didn't have a typewriter?

On the subject of typewriters, I can still "fondly" remember banging out page after page on my trusted Smith Corona in the late 1980s. I think I was a bit slow on the on the uptake with computers!

Times move slowly.

In mid-2000s I wrote to the Welfare FA (postal contact seeming the only mode available) and received a reply typewritten on Foolscap with a seal on the envelope.

My trusty old 1970s portable finally gave up the ghost in the early 1990s and as by then I had a voice recorder, I no longer needed it "on the road." So I had to decide between a word processor and an electronic typewriter. The very words "word processor" suggested some kind of sausage factory so I opted for the electronic and was amazed to find that I could delete fourteen characters before reaching for the Tippex.

I had briefly "used" computers but green on black type and incomprehensible printouts meant nothing to me. It was only when GUIs were developed that I seriously started learning how to use one and I had turned forty by then.

One advantage though was the ability to (almost) touch type, having taken a "commercial and secretarial" class at school - usually a girls' class. Three of us took this course on the grounds that we were crap at woodwork and metalwork. In reality of course we thought that with ten girls for every boy in the class that our odds were, as Larry David would say, pretty, pretty good.

We were wrong.
