This might help a little.

Monday 16 December 1957 Rugby Park Kilmarnock Attendance 5,000

Ayrshire Select 1 (Harvey) Glasgow Select 0

Players mentioned in the Evening News match report - Willie Harvey (Kilmarnock); Willie Toner; Andy McEwan; George Young; Peter Price

Referee Jack Mowat

No first team players from Rangers and Third Lanark were selected as they were playing in the Glasgow Cup Final on the Wednesday.

Willie Waddell (Kilmarnock) helped select the Ayrshire team, from Killie, Ayr United and St Mirren,

From Duncan Carmichael's history of Ayr United, the Ayr players were Jimmy Whittle, Alastair McIntyre and Peter Price. The following night, Ayr played a friendly at Workington!

Unfortunately Richard Cairns' 'Collector's Guide' to Killie programmes is non-commital on whether a match programme was issued or not. That might have helped with the line-up. It's not in his list of definite 'other' (i.e. non-KFC) programmes nor is in his list of 'definitely nots.'

The Mitchell has (or used to have) sets of Kilmarnock Standards so the answer may lie there.

One way to find out who holds what newspaper is the EDINA SALSER database: http://edina.ac.uk/salser/

According to that, there are holdings of the Kilmarnock Standard in the National Library in Edinburgh, but no harm in asking at the Mitchell.

Richard Cairns tells me the attendance for this match was 5,191. He's going to check the Kilmarnock Standard for match details but thinks it'll be after the holidays before he can access their archive.

Great stuff David.
I tried looking through the Muirkirk Advertiser files, but nothing there.

I reckon this just might have been George Young's last match as a player; given he had retired in May, 1957, at the end of the previous season.
