Quickest hat-trick
Quickest hat-trick
Wondering if anyone can help. A friend has asked me who holds the record for the quickest hat-trick (ie. period between the first and third goals, as opposed to quickest from start of a match) in the Scottish League.
Re: Quickest hat-trick
I always thought Ian St John held this record in Scotland. The article below says a Tommy Ross of Ross County bettered it in 1964 but, in the senior game, St. John appears to still hold the record.

Re: Quickest hat-trick
I thought Tommy Bryce had the record, 1min 46 seconds for Queen of the South?

Re: Quickest hat-trick
Supposedly Tommy Ross got three in 1 min 30 seconds but no idea how that's verified as it wasn't filmed and in those days as now you didn't have goals timed to the second.
Tommy Bryce got three goals in the 8th, 9th and 10th minutes against Arbroath (I was at the game and can physically confirm since I looked at my watch which was digital in those days) that the goals were scored in under 2 minutes. The figure of 1min 46 seconds appeared mysteriously several years later, quoted by Bryce himself but as I can guarantee similarly that the game wasn't filmed I've no idea where the degree of accuracy came from. I couldn't be sure from my own memory exactly how many seconds it was but definitely sub 2 minutes. Bryce's effort was in the Guinness Book for Records for several years listed just as I have it above (that he scored in the 8th, 9th and 10th minutes). However it hasn't been quoted in that for at least a decade now.

I was at that one too though I think he'd already scored in the game so those were his 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals.LEATHERSTOCKING wrote:Bryce also scored a hat-trick vs. Dumbarton 2nd Division 22/2/1997 @ Palmerston Park with goals in the 74th, 75th & 77th minutes.
There's a good interview with Bryce in which he discusses both games here:
