Inter League matches: Some questions

Postby kjell » Wed Mar 01, 2017 5:47 pm

I have started to compile a list of players with appearances and goals for the "Inter League" matches.

Some early questions regarding the Scottish League matches and players (more will come for sure).

(1) Is the John Bell of Dumbarton in the 1892 match vs English League the same player as Glasgow Rangers' John Bell Barker that played the 1894 match vs English League?

1892 match;
1894 match:

(2) Were there two John Campbell for Celtic during the 1900/01 season and did they both play vs. English League in the 1901 match? I suspect the centre half should be Rangers' Robert Neil?

1901 match:

(3) The last of the early questions. In the 1893 match vs Irish League there is a representative from Renton - J.L. Allison. Do you have a first name for this player instead of the initials?

I can answer the first question. The two players are not the same person. The John Bell who played for the Scottish League v the Football League on 11 April 1892 was an Everton player by the time of the 1894 game. However for information his brother Laurie Bell played for the Scottish League against the Irish League on 2 February 1895 at Grosvenor Park, Belfast, scoring the last of the goals in a 4:1 victory.

Sorry to hijack this thread but along similar lines here is a link to a page about Renton FC which contains 3 excellent photos and they are trying to discover who is in the photos. Maybe you could contact them and they may know. ... tonfc.html
