I'm hoping someone might be able to identify the Raith players in this photograph. The East Fife players are goalkeeper Johnny Curran and Willie Finlay. Thanks in advance...

The photo is in the 1953/54 Raith Rovers handbook with the caption 'High jinks from Curran and Copland during the local derby against East Fife'.

So the jumping man is Ernie Copland, but I can't help with the one in the background.

I'm assuming the 1953-54 handbook covers that season, rather than being issued for the forthcoming season 1953-54 as the first time Copland faced East Fife at Bayview was on New Years Day 1954?

He played in the New Years Day game in 1953 at Starks Park.

Yes he did, but the pic is at Bayview - so I think the date must be January 1954...

Actually, could the venue be Stark's Park? I don't think I've seen a pic taken from that angle back then.

Edit: Definitely not Stark's Park - the railway side terracing was covered in 1953...

Well the handbook was definitely issued in the summer of 1953, so either the caption is wrong or you are! I don't know the grounds well enough to say.

I've also found the same photo in the Simmath Press 'Scottish League Yearbook' for 1953/54 but with the simple caption 'East Fife v Raith Rovers'. There's nothing in the newspapers around either game in 52/53 to give any pointers.
