1st Player to win League and Cup in Scotland with two clubs?

Post by Sat31March1928 » Sun Aug 25, 2019 6:22 am

Can't remember If I've asked this question before.

We have just been loaned Davie Russell's Scottish Cup Medal from 1891.

You can see it in the Hearts' Museum.

As He also won with
Hearts
Scottish League
1894-95
Scottish Cup
1896
Celtic
Scottish League
1897-98
Scottish Cup
1900

Was He the first player to win League and Cup in Scotland with two clubs?

If Dumbarton are excluded.
Celtic and Rangers excluded too.
So it would have to be a player who played with Hearts and either Celtic or Rangers?

Barney Battles Snr didn't win the Cup with Hearts.

Can't think of any others.

Slightly off piste, this thread reminded me of Shoto Arveladze who collected cup winners medals in 4 countries - he was in Dynamo Tblisi`s Georgian Cup winning sides of 1992 and 1993, Trabzonspor`s Turkish winning side of 1995, Ajax Amsterdam`s in 1999 and in Rangers` 2002 & 2003 winning sides. Did he win the league too these countries too?

One thing to note about Davie Russell is that he is regularly confused with another Davie Russell, who also played for Preston North End.

The Hearts and Celtic player was born 9 January 1871 at Shotts (whereas Wiki, Lamming and other sources say born in Airdrie in 1868). He died 8 November 1952 in Fauldhouse. He had no middle name (often quoted as David Kennedy Russell, which was the other guy).

Playing career:
East Benhar Heatherbell
Broxburn
Hearts
Preston NE
Hearts
Celtic
Preston NE
Celtic
Broxburn
