Queen of the South 63/64

Post by Rob R » Tue Mar 24, 2020 4:13 am

Would anybody know the first name of a Centre Half by the name of Cowan ,who played for Queens 2nd X1 in 63/64 season and also( this is a long shot) the names of the left back trialist and outside right trialist, who turned out for the 2nd X1 against Rangers Reserves at Ibrox on the 22nd February 1964. Many thanks in advance.

John Litster's disk has a Thomas L Cowan signing for Queen of the South on 25 February 1964 from Hyde United.

Thanks Bluedragon, he must have been a trialist too and signed a couple of days after the game.

I think some of those dates were taken from a weekly magazine that used to give transfer news. Therefore the date in this case may be a few days later than the actual date of signing. I see the Evening Times match report gives his name which would say that he had been signed at the time of the match.

The Evening Times is where I got my info from but Neil Browns UK transfer website does not list him so he couldn't have made a first team appearance. and I take it the 2 newmans are the trialists I was enquiring about. While we here in New Zealand are on a months lockdown I thought it would give me time to get back into a project I started a while back, and that's cataloging every game Ive been to. Team line ups, scorers referees, bookings etc. some I can only put the score, competition , and venue , especially for midweek junior games. thanks again for your input.

The Weekly News used to have a column that was headed "Signed This Week " or something similar and gave you all league clubs signings not only transfer deals but signings from Schools , boys clubs etc.

John Litster's record show his only first team matches were two appearances in the Summer Cup that was played in May 1964.
