King Cup 1889-90

I'm looking at the above competition and noted that Raith Rovers were drawn against Bellstane Birds in the first round. I haven't been able to find a reference to this match being played but it is noted Cowdenbeath beat Raith 6-2 on 7 December 1889 in round 2. The trouble is Bellstane then appeared in the third round eventually reaching the final.

I thought maybe the first round draw was wrongly reported and Raith and Bellstane received byes but Bellstane getting another bye in round 2 scuppers that theory.
Was the Raith/Belstane match played, Raith winning but were subsequently disqualified after the second round was played off?

Can't answer that fully, but Raith Rovers have a full calendar of fixtures in November 1889, with a game every Saturday. So there is nothing to indicate the game against Bellstane Birds was played.

When I was looking at Fife teams in this competition I couldn't find any reference to the Raith Rovers v Bellstane birds game ever being played in any of the newpapers on microfilm in Kirkcaldy library or any reference to either teams scratching. The Cowden v Raith game on the 7th December is always described as a King cup tie.
I haven't got full access to BNA online but doing a search on Bellstane Birds brings up Edinburgh Evening New 9th May which seems to say they reached the semi final without playing a game.

If the 9 May report is assumed to be correct then ..
Raith had to have scratched to them in R1 and the Cowden/Raith tie in R2 actually WASN'T a King Cup tie. Bellstane, Cowdenbeath and Broxburn would then all have received byes to make an 8 club R3.
Bellstane subsequently had a walkover against Alloa in R3 before beating Cowden in the semis on 18 Jan 1890.
