First English winner of Scottish Cup

Post by ScottishFA » Sun Jun 07, 2020 9:36 am

I have been posed these questions by Jack Thomas through the admin mailbox:

I am trying to find out the first Englishman to win Scottish FA Cup. I know Jim Welford was first Englishman to win both FA Cup and Scottish Cup but was he first to win Scottish Cup? Also who was first Englishman to score in Scottish Cup final? First I can find is Frank Booth in 1910.

Jimmy Welford won the FA Cup with Aston Villa in 1895, the Scottish Cup with Celtic in 1899. Frank Booth scored for Clyde in 1910.

I expect these are correct, can anyone confirm? It may not be possible to be 100% certain if some early finalists have not been identified.

Harry Clements was an early English-born Scottish Cup finalist but alas not a winner. He played in the St Mirren team that lost to Celtic in the 1908 Final.
