Complete Records

Post by J.S.Norway » Sat Aug 08, 2020 8:11 pm

I have complete record books for Hamilton Academicals, Raith Rovers, Partick Thistle, Dundee United, Celtic, Rangers, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and Dundee + Hearts, Falkirk and Motherwell after WW2. On internett there are Hibernian, Forfar and Hearts + partly Morton. Are there complete records for other Scottish clubs available?

This is my bookshelf:

Aberdeen - Centenary History - Stirling, 2002
Celtic - 125 Years of Competitive Matches - Poter & Rowan, 2012
Dumbarton - Sons of the Rock - McAllister, 2002
Dundee - They Wore the Dark Blue - Price, 2004
Dundee Utd - Official Centenary History - Rundo & Watson, 2009
Edinburgh City - Marine Gardens to Meadowbank - Beecroft, 2005
Falkirk - Brockville Bairns V1-V3 / Falkirk Bairns V4 - White, 1991-2009
Hamilton Academical - Illustrated History - Dick & Watson, 2009
Heart of Midlothian - Gritty, Gallant, Glorious - Price, 1997
Hibernian - there are results in Making of Hibernian V1-3 - Lugton, 2012; and statistics in Complete Story - Mackay, 1990
Kilmarnock - Everygame - Ross, 2001
Montrose - there are statistics in Journey So Far - Doyle, 2013
Motherwell - Well Again - Barnstaple & Brown, 2004
Partick Thistle - Official History - various, 2002
Queen's Park - Men with Educated Feet - Robertson, 2018
Raith Rovers - Always Next Season - Litster, 2008
Rangers - Complete Record - Ferris & McElroy, 2005
St Bernards - When the Well Ran Dry - Park, 2008
St Johnstone - Manifest Destiny - Blair & Doyle, 2015
Stirling Albion - Albion 1945 to 1988 - Grieve & Turnbull, 1988
Third Lanark - Life & Death of the Hi Hi - Litster, 2010

Some have earlier editions.

There was a previous St Johnstone edition under a different title and earlier Complete Records for Celtic (and Aberdeen?).

That would suggest none for:

Airdrieonians, Albion Rovers, Alloa Athletic, Arbroath
Ayr Utd, Berwick Rangers, Brechin City, Clyde
Clydebank, Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline Athletic, East Fife
East Stirlingshire, Forfar Athletic, Greenock Morton, Leith Athletic,
Livingston/Meadowbank Thistle, Queen of the South, St Mirren, Stenhousemuir, Stranraer

without considering some recent entrants or pre-war league clubs.

I'm not aware of some of those - are these on FitbaStats (originally iHibs) or elsewhere?

Online offerings have proved very transient. Here are those I recall. I've noted in red those which seem to have gone 'defunct'.

(Several aren't overtly statistical).

Aberdeen - AFC Heritage - http://www.afcheritage.org/main.cfm
Airdrieonians - did there not used to be a site called Airdrie Programmes or similar?
Arbroath - there as a very 1990s style history website, mainly narrative, with a timeline etc.
Ayr United - Ayr Utd Archive - https://ayrutdarchive.com/ - seems to be successor to Ayr Utd Programmes
Berwick Rangers - there were comprehensive player bios and stats on a previous official club website
Celtic - Celtic Wiki - http://www.thecelticwiki.com/ - and Celtic Programmes - http://celticprogrammes.co.uk/
Clyde - there was a Clyde Archive
Clydebank - Clydebank Programmes - http://www.clydebankprogrammesonline.co.uk/
Dumbarton - Sons Archive - http://sonsarchive.com
Dundee Utd - Arab Archive - https://www.arabarchive.co.uk/index.php
Dunfermline Athletic - Pars Database - http://www.parsdatabase.co.uk/
East Fife - there was an excellent East Fife Historian which has been shut down
Falkirk - Better Meddle - http://bettermeddle.org.uk/
Hamilton Academical - Accies Memory Bank - https://sites.google.com/site/hamiltona ... ybank/home - was there a preceder?
Heart of Midlothian - London Hearts - https://www.londonhearts.com/
Hibernian - Historical Trust - http://www.hibshistoricaltrust.org.uk/ - there used to be an excellent Hibs Programmes site, and a Results Archive on a previous official club website
Kilmarnock - there was a very 1990s style website, mainly narrative, is this now https://www.killiefc.com/?
Motherwell - Well Net - http://www.motherwellnet.com/
Partick Thistle - History Archive - http://partickthistleahistory.wikifoundry.com/
Queen of the South - QotS Archive - http://www.qosarchive.co.uk/
Queen's Park - QPFC - http://www.qpfc.com/
Raith Rovers - Raith Museum - https://www.raithmuseum.org/
Rangers - there was a good Rangers history site and a Rangers Programmes site
St Mirren - St Mirren Info - http://www.stmirren.info/ - and St Mirren Programmes - http://www.stmirrenprogrammes.co.uk/
Third Lanark - I have hazy memories of a site of some kind

No doubt others will add to or amend these lists.

All of the books I listed have complete results/lineups/scorers.

EDIT: After a quick excursion along the bookshelf, the exceptions - aside from Hibs and Montrose already mentioned - are:

* Stirling Albion ... gives full dates, results, attendances for all matches; gives appearances, scorers in season summary
* Third Lanark ... gives full dates, results, attendances, scorers for national + Glasgow matches; gives appearances in season summary (broken down by national competition)

In some cases they don't include friendlies or local cups.

I think most/all the others you have listed are more like narrative histories or pictorials.

For example I've got the Morton book and it's overwhelmingly photos with the only text being captions and single-page chapter intros.

Some clubs also have "Player A-Z" books with summary statistics; also John Litster's CDs of course.

By searching "Dumbarton 1939", "Dumbarton 1940" etc you'll find full results and player appearances & goals (but not line-ups for individual games) for the Sons on Wikipedia
