Sunday Football

Post by kiwiscot » Thu Jan 04, 2007 8:05 pm

Whilst researching club and International tours over the years. the odd Sunday game comes up. did the teams involved have to get special permission from the SFA to play on a Sunday as I believed their was a blanket ban on Sunday football until 1974. Is it possible some games were actually played on a Saturday but because of time zones it was reported as Sunday.. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks

If you look at Sat 31's lists you'll see that the overwhelming majority of these games were played in countries just an hour or two ahead in time and in the instances of Portugal and the ROI the same time zone. South America, Canada & the USA are several hours behind. In fact the only game on that list with even the POTENTIAL to cause such confusion is the one in Japan (nine hours ahead)

The main thing to remember is that the SFA's ban only ever applied to matches within their jurisdiction.
