Obviously the biggest crowds have come in the Champions League group stages from the traditional big clubs but it's worth pointing out that both Aberdeen and Celtic had the largest crowds of the round at their entry point. For Celtic that was the best of 34 and the Dons impressively topped 78 other matches. There are those who think there's only money to be made at the sharp end of the Champions League but how important it can be to a club can be shown by the fact that more than 52,000 spectators watched Aberdeen's three home games this season. If current trends continue that's more than Hamilton Accies will get in the league all season.

Worth pointing out also that the Champions League group stage is better attended than any league in Europe bar the Bundesliga and the overall CL average is on a par with Spain and behind only Germany and England.

Theoretically, 90 matches have still to be played (61 EL, 29 CL) but two - the finals - will be on neutral territory and at least one (the second of Legia Warsaw's two match ban) will be behind closed doors. That leaves a maximum of 87 more games to be played this season. Counting the finals and the games behind closed doors, that makes 699 matches in all. Throw in the Super Cup to make it a nice round 700 and that's almost a national league season in many countries and more than several as well. In Scotland for instance there are 768 matches in the regular league season.
