Thanks for that. As they had previously announced he would be in charge until at least the end of this season I had already added him to the 'permanents' rather than caretakers.

Thanks for that. Duly amended. Sorry you went down and that it hasn't worked out for Gus at Palmerston. Do you know who will be in charge for the final match? Nothing on club website about that and I see Andy Millen has left as well.

Allan Johnston will be in charge as far as I know, though whether anyone has actually spoken to him about it yet I don't know. He was No 3 and is still a player.

Likewise I'm sorry it hasn't worked out for Gus. A thoroughly professional manager and a good guy. I like him. However, it's a results business and tight as the finances have been it's doubtful we had a lower budget than Raith and Ayr yet we finished below them. Worse than that there's been a complete lack of fight in the last few weeks when those two were nicking wins and points here and there. He'd lost the support of the majority of the crowd and in that situation his departure was inevitable. I wish him all the best.

Thanks for that. Yes, I thought after beating Ayr, drawing at Dundee and with three of the last four at home, QoS had a decent chance of at least making the play-offs. But the Livi result was a real shocker.

Another long server bites the dust today, Brian Reid departed from Ayr United.

Edited to add: Mark Roberts has been appointed in his place.

Thanks for that. Not entirely unexpected, this one. An eventful time but failure to keep Ayr in the 1st division (twice) was his downfall. Roberts's appointment makes me realise just how time flies. It doesn't seem that long ago since he was sixteen-year-old missing a penalty in a shoot-out v Meadowbank Thistle in the Scottish Cup at Rugby Park. He wasn't alone. The late, great Tommy Burns missed one as well.
