Scottish Cup 1st round info - worse than ever

Post by Scottish » Mon Aug 27, 2012 3:34 pm

Can't find details of goalscorers, let alone crowd figures. I suppose if I crawl through various club sites some info may turn up but for the SFA's own site to have such little information is very poor indeed. Scorer information may be of the Sky Sports Score Centre but that requires Flash and I only have an iPad with me at the moment and they are incompatible with Flash.

Anyone with details of scorers and/or crowds please post here.

Scottish Sun & The Scotsman both give roundups of the principle games but that`s about all I can find - no goal times or attendances which is very poor. For the SFA`s own website to give only the scores is even worse; it`s their own competition for goodness sake. The BBC`s site used to be good @ this but only in the days when the 1st Round followed the Qualifying Cup competition. Now, they`re all treatiing the Cup`s 1st Round like the old Qualy ie. ignoring it.

Nice wee comment on the Scotsman`s website hoping Rangers beat Forres & draw Civil Service Strollers in the 3rd Round so they can have a go @ the taxman on the field too!

Thanks for that, it`s helped me piece together from various sources players names including forenames, goal times and sendings off(sur & fore names). Zilcho on attendances from anywhere. The SFA`s website still hasn`t got a replay date for Edinburgh vs. Shotts.

I've seen a figure quoted for the Bonnyrigg game of 400 - I was there, and I'd say that was probably a good estimate, but I'll ask for a verified figure.

Bonnyrigg Team was:

Andy Carlin, Kevin McLeish, StevieThomspson, Liam McKenna, Sean Woodburn, Davie Roseburgh, Alex King, Sean Grady, Ross Archibald, Paul Shields & Kris Renton.

Davie Burrell appeared for Renton and as noted on that link Renton & Shields scored for Bonnyrigg.
It's the Hope I can't stand

There`s a few discrepancies in scorers between the LIVESCORE & SCOTSMAN sites which I`d say could only be clarified by the SFA. However, its website DOES now have the replay date for Edinburgh/Shotts. Why it can`t have more than just the Preliminary & 1st Round scores I don`t know. I`ve e.mailed asking them and am holding my breath for a response.

Some further details from Highland League site

Saturday Summaries August 25th 2012: No SHFL club loses to a non SHFL club
Formartine United and Turriff United opened their Scottish Cup accounts with victories with both netting three early goals to make some magical memories for the home supporters. The games went differently from there on in as Formartine survived a second half fightback from Brora Rangers to win 3-2 with Steve Mackay striking the bar late on.

Turriff went from strength to strength and eventually ran out 6-1 winners with Paul Campbell and Gary Harris both netting twice in a comprehensive win. Stephen Gauld and Ross Anderson also grabbes some limelight.

Clachnacuddin edged out Lossiemouth by two goals to one. Scott Graham opened the scoring in the 46th minute before Blair Lawrie added the second in the 81st minute. Ross Archibald pulled one back but Lossie couldn't find an equaliser. Wick Academy scored twice in first half injury time to record one of the results of the afternoon, winning 2-0 at Spartans. Grant Steven and Lukasz Geruzel heading the Scorries into the next round.

Fraserburgh warmed to the task of facing Coldstream with a comfortable 4-0 win including goals from Ryan Christie, Mark Cowie, Scott Barbour and Graham Johnston. Nairn County defeated Fort William's conquerors Preston Athletic with Robbie Duncanson and Conor Gethins netting early in each half in a game that saw both teams finish with ten men. Final Score 2-0.

Deveronvale also progressed winning 4-1 over North Junior champions Hermes. Scott Fraser bagged two scoring in the 3rd and 25th minute while Graeme Watt and Kris Duncan were also on target. Keith Wilson netted for the home side. Inverurie Locos also went through with a 4-2 win in Rosewell. Andy Bagshaw and Ryan Broadhurst were on target for the Red and Blacks in the first half and Steven Park and Stuart McKay scored after the break.

Two second half goals from Barry Somers saw Huntly earn themselves a replay against Wigtown and Bladnoch although the Black and Golds will now face the daunting trip to the other corner of the country in seven days time.

The trip will be a far shorter one for Buckie Thistle as they drew 0-0 with Rothes and will now head for Mackessack Park for the replay. Sean McIntosh saw red for an off the ball incident in the game that saw Morag Pirie make her return to SHFL grounds.

Golspie Sutherland defeated Hawick Royal Albert to book their berth in the second round. Former Highland League players Shane Sutherland (pen), Shaun Kerr and Ronnie Jones (2) were on target in a 4-2 win. That meant that Brora Rangers Lossiemouth and Hermes were the only North based clubs going out at this stage although all three of them went out to SHFL sides.

Cove Rangers have gone to the top of the P&J Highland Football League thanks to two goals late in the first half from Jordan Leyden and Paul Emslie which saw them through despite Blair Yule seeing red at half time for standing on an opponents foot.

Pleasantly surprised to receive an answer to my e.mail to the SFA - see below. No immediate improvement proposed then. If you`ve ever been on the SFA`s website, it`s absolutely full of inconsequential tosh. Why they can`t put up full details of their own cup competition remains a mystery.

Thank you for your email the contents of which have been noted and passed to
the appropriate department for attention. I would say though that in the
short term the information provided by the Scottish FA will not change
although we are currently reviewing this. Thank you for taking the trouble to

Getting a reply is an improvement, tbf...

As I've said in prior years: for posterity and historical consistency it would've been better if this had been termed the Preliminary Round or Qualifying Round when the rules were changed, as - unfortunately - this is how it's being treated in practice by SFA+media.

Even R2 had been getting a bit ropey in the last year or 2 but Rangers presence will head-that-off this season.

As I said, I was pleasantly surprised to gat a reply; I honestly didn `t expect one. I`ve said from the start that the Qualifying Cup shouldn`t have been scrapped but the SFA did it as a sweetener to the Juniors. So far, no 10 goal routs but then Rangers have still to go to Forres!
