It sounds as if you have his Junior cap details but here they are if not.
27 March 1897 v Ireland at Grosvenor Park, Belfast Attendance 7,000 Score 3-1(ht 2-1) Scottish goalscorers Grey, Brown, Haggart
Here is some more on Robert Grey. He was selected in one of four teams that played trial games in Glasgow on 20 March 1897 for selection to the Junior Scotland team.
On 24 March 1897 the Junior selectors announced two completely different teams for the Junior Internationals against Ireland (27 March 1897) and England (3 April 1897) plus a reserve XI to fill in for late call-offs – 33 players in all.
The Kirkintilloch Herald on 8 September 1897 says that the signed for Partick Thistle for the 1897/98 season and made a very good impression. So much so that Everton tried to sign him and offered him £150. The report says “
but the crowd heard of it, and there was some hunting for him [the Everton agent] on Saturday after the match. However, he eluded them, but he is not likely to try Meadowside in a hurry again.”
In John Litster’s disk there is a Robert Gray [note spelling] who signed for Partick Thistle on 19 May 1897.
If it is the same one he played at Everton (eventually!) in the 1899/1900 and 1900/01 seasons making 20 league appearances (1 goal) and played in one FA Cup tie. He moved on to Southampton for the 1901/02 season but did not play any games. He returned to Partick Thistle in June 1902.
