The EFA was formed on 11 Sep 1875 at the Buchanan Hotel by 4 clubs: Hearts, Thistle, 3rd ERV and Hanover. Its original title was actually "Eastern Branch of the SFA" but the SFA refused to recognise this, so Edinburgh FA was subsequently chosen.

Stewart Mathers found a snippet in The Edinburgh Evening News (Monday 22 Nov 1875) reporting a match between Thistle and Hearts (score 1-0) for something called the "Eastern Branch Cup".

Is this the long-missing, long forgotten tie?
