Shettleston Juniors and Bonnyrigg Rose used to play 'friendlies' for the Merchant's Trophy intermittingly in the 60s and 70s. The last was in June 1979. Does anyone know the history of this?

Re: Sandy Jardine RIP

There was a Jimmy Jardine who signed for Rangers in November 1964 from Dunipace Thistle. He joined Aberdeen without making a League Appearance. It was the same at Pittodrie, but he then signed for Hamilton in January 1970 and made 11 appearances in 1969-70 without scoring. Stirling Albion were his f...

Re: A victim of 'retain and transfer'

I think Rene Moller was retained by Hearts until 1976 - about 6 years after leaving.

Re: Back in 1963

Was Alistair Dewar not sacked after Hearts beat Celtic 4-1 in 1972 for being too enthusiastic or at least reprimanded or is my memory hazy?

Re: Central Junior League Season 36/37

You could try, as I do for Shettleston's results, the Daily Record [for midweek results] and Sports Times for Saturday results at the Mitchell

Re: Most Goals in an SPL Day

I know it's not the SPL/EPL but according to the Sports Times of 26th August 1967, there were 90 goals scored in 12 Central Junior League games. Results were: Blantyre V. 4-3 Vale of Leven Cambuslang 5-6 Shettleston Cumbernauld 4-3 Benburb Dennistoun 2-4 Port Glasgow Dunipace 6-3 Blantyre C. Greenoc...

Re: Celtic's 'Home' Games At Hampden...But Why?

As I recall, there was a safety issue with the Parkhead stand. Celtic also played Arbroath [3-3] at Hampden in the League Cup.

McLeod Trophy

Does anyone know the format of the above in 1971-72? I have Shettleston playing St.Anthony's on 22nd May and again on 12th June, but with 4 McLeod Trophy games in between.

One of my memories of the 1971 League Cup Final was switching on the radio at ten past four [they only gave commentary of the last half-hour in those days] and Roy Small [remember him?] let us hear David Francey describing the four goals one by one and saying between each one that Thistle still were...

John McFarlane

According to John Litster, there was a John McFarlane who played 16 games and scoring 12 goals in 1968-69 - all before the end of October before he was released to join Airdrie  . I can't find him anywhere else. Can anyone help identify him?
