Re: Jack Young (Kilmarnock, 1907-09)

"During 1906 Young is noted as a reserve for Scotland's eleven to play Wales". I am not sure about this. There was a"Young" in the reserve XI for this international. The newspapers show him as a Kilmarnock player and one newspaper gives his first initial as "A". John Young would have been at Bristo...

Re: Jack Young (Kilmarnock, 1907-09)

There was a John Vallance Young whose birth was registered in the Hurlford Registration District in 1888. His mother’s maiden name was Thomson. There were no other births with the name John [first or middle name] Young registered in Hurlford between 1880 and 1890. There were no records for Jack or ...

Re: Fastest Scotland international goal

The fastest goal scored in a Junior International was in 15 seconds! It was scored by Hugh Smith (Aberdeen Rosemount and later of Forfar Athletic & Morton) against Northern Ireland on 12 March 1960.

Re: 1930's goalkeeper Bradley

John Litster’s pre-War records have a goalkeeper named James Maxwell Bradley born 25 October 1910 in the Gorbals, Glasgow. From John’s record and a browse in the newspaper archive here are some details. He started out playing Juvenile football for St Mungos (Glasgow) and was in the team that won the...

Re: Bobbie Walker

There are no Walkers that fit the bill in either John Litster’s pre-Second World War records or the London Hearts website. On checking the newspapers of the day the great Hearts & Scotland player was referred to as both “Bobby Walker” and “Bobbie Walker” That could be the reason for the confusion.

Scotland 2 Northern Ireland 0.

It appears to have been played at Love Street, Paisley, not Airdrie.

Couldn't find scorers though.
Many thanks for the details in your two posts.

Re: James Brogan (1889-1974)

Brian McColl's Scottish Football Historical Results Archive says that in the 1915-16 season Royal Albert played in the first season of the West of Scotland League that was a Wartime league, along with an Eastern League, for Second Division clubs when that division was suspended. Royal Albert finishe...

Re: 1967 Oceanic Tour 5 games updated to Full Internationals

Thanks for the full details (and points of dispute!) from the tour. Although there were no Scottish journalists accompanying the party, manager Bobby Brown received telephone calls from journalists at home. One match report in the Evening Times was clearly the result of such a post-match call. I hav...

Re: Player enquiry

John Christie appears to have stayed on at Yoker as the Lennox Herald -10 January 1885, 24 January 1885, 5 September 1885 and 27 November 1886 all show Christie as a forward in the Yoker line-up. Furthermore the issue of 10 January 1885 includes this revelation -" Yoker v Airdrieonians-This New Year...

Re: Player enquiry

Although, as you say, we will probably never find the answer, it is still interesting to follow up. Apart from John Christie there appears to have been three other players at the time who could claim to be “late of Rangers” and “late of Bolton Wanderers”. Here are three Rangers players who went to B...

Re: Player enquiry

A little more on John Christie…. He played cup and friendly matches for Rangers in three seasons (1880-81,1881-82 & 1883-84). The 1882-83 season appears to have been spent at Bolton Wanderers. His first recorded appearance for Rangers was on 18 December 1880 in a Scottish Cup 5th Round tie v Hurlfor...
