Michel Platini, would you believe, came on as a half-time sub for France Amateurs v Scotland Amateurs at Somerset Park in Ayr on 10 October 1973.

It was a UEFA qualifier, and he also played in the return match in Sete in Feb 74.

Johann Cryuff played at Love Street for Feyenoord in the UEFA Cup in September 1983. Ruud Gulitt scored the only goal of the match.

Defining a 'great player' is obviously subjective to some extent but 2003 Ballon d'Or winner, Pavel Nedved, played at Broomfield for Sparta Prague in the ECWC in September 1992. I think that may in fact have been his European debut.

In 1970 UEFA held their International Youth Tournament in Scotland. Group C featured Holland and West Germany, who played each other at Pittodrie on 20 May. Johan Neeskens and Johnny Rep were in the Dutch team while West Germany included Paul Breitner, Uli Hoeness and Rainer Bonhof.

Josef Masopust played for Dukla Prague against Dunfermline in a friendly match at East End Park on 24 November 1965. It finished 2-2. Masopust was voted European Footballer of the Year in 1962 after helping Czechoslovakia reach the World Cup Final, losing to Brazil.

Masopust also played for Czechoslovakia @ Hampden 26/9/1961 in a World cup qualifying tie. He & 5 others then played in the Final in 1962. Is Lukas Masopust related?

I wonder why an initial post doesn`t appear until I`ve waited for a half an hour then appears when I`ve sent another one. The rotter(not the first word which sprang to mind).

I think it might be an issue with your computer or wifi rather than the message board (for once). But you can always go into a post and delete or edit it.

I`m sure it`s my pc - a mind of its own. I`m sure on the sly it goes off for a coffee then comes back,"Now then what was he wanting to do? Oh yes a post on the scottishleague.net website wasn`t it? I`ll do it in a minute once I`ve rearranged the keyboard so he types the words all wrong. Tee hee." Paranoid? ME?!
